“Play Fair” Policies

We request that while using the message board and chat room features, you play fair and conduct yourself as you would with good friends. The information shared here is personal and our website is intended as a safe, comfortable place to share information, hear about other women’s experiences and find support from women who’ve been there and are currently living with breast cancer. Exchanging ideas or information is helpful; advice is not. For the message boards to be useful everyone needs to be heard and their feelings and experience respected. A post will be removed if it is critical or judgmental of other members or if it identifies someone else. We ask that you not “doctor bash” either.

Personal Information

We do not collect personally identifiable information about individuals except when specifically, knowingly and voluntarily provided by such individuals. If you provide us with personally identifiable information, it will not be transferred, sold or loaned to any third party. We comply with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and our guidelines and policies go beyond what PIPA requires.

Demographic Information

The information we ask you for upon registration to our chat room is to ensure the quality of the service we are providing and to guide us in reaching our target audience. To provide the most appropriate resources for you, it’s helpful for us to have information such as your age, whether you have children and how you have found out about our website. This kind of general information does not identify you personally.

IP Addresses

Breastcancernowwhat.ca may use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, prevent abuse of our server, and to administer our Web site. Your IP address is also used to gather broad demographic information for statistical and research purposes only. We may make this information – that is not personally identifiable - available to researchers.

Cookies

Breastcancernowwhat.ca may place a "cookie" in the browser files of the user's computer. The cookie itself does not contain any personally identifiable information and is used to allow an authenticated user to access pages that require a login. The cookie is created on login and persists for a little while after the user leaves the site, or until logging out. Although the cookie could enable us to relate a user's use of this site to information that the user has specifically and knowingly provided, we do not do so except in cases as outlined above, or under an official law enforcement directive.

Your Web browser may include an option that allows you not to accept cookies, or warn you before accepting them. However, we do not recommend using this option, since some features that require user login will not function properly without them.

Message Board Confidentiality

This site makes chat rooms, forums, message boards, and/or news groups available to its users. Please remember that while the chat rooms and message boards are “private”, they are on the Internet and there is ultimately no way to ensure that everyone is who they say they are. We would ask that while you use our site, you not use your first name nor reveal information that could allow someone to identify you. We provide the ability to allow another registered user to email you off the board (if you consent to it) to allow for more personal discussion.

Please do not share someone else’s experiences or stories without their permission. If you feel someone would benefit from another member's experience, either email that person or direct her to the post she could help with. Posting messages or email sent to you from another member is also not permitted without that person’s permission.

To ensure this is a safe place to post, it is necessary that personal information is kept private. This means we recommend that you not post your personal information such as: phone numbers, addresses, or any other information that could identify you or someone else as individuals. Remember, no matter how intimate and private you think your conversations may be, the Internet and the World Wide Web are public places where millions of people gather.

Members will post with care and will maintain the integrity of the website

They will not upload, post, email or otherwise transmit any material that contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, damage, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment.

Offensive or Inappropriate Posts

We will remove any posts and may suspend the user privileges of anyone who is not able to play fair according to the guidelines mentioned above. Posts will also be removed if they are marketing or promoting the gifting or sale of any particular item(s) or products.
